Celebrating Independence Day in the Philippines

July 3, 2013 — 6 Comments

The kids had a blast (pun intended) getting ready for July 4th this year. They’ve been making fancy crafts and hanging flags and stars around here. It’s been fun. They even helped “mommy” make some blueberry muffins complete with little stars sticking out of them. Here’s a little something we put together for you to see what they’ve been up to. Carter has been memorizing the Pledge of Allegiance so I know you will enjoy hearing that.

Normally, we are trying to figure out where we should park so we don’t have to walk five miles to see the fireworks. Although, in reality we could see them just as well without walking so far, but that’s not as fun. I remember Sandra taking her shoes off because they were rubbing blisters on her foot, or was that Chelsea — I’m not sure. It seems like they traded shoes before it was over. Anyway, I also remember back in the days of single hood, a few of us would get on bikes and weave between the mass of people on riverside drive just in time for the “show!” Those were good times. We have lots of fun memories around the fourth of July.

Although we are really going to miss being home for the festivities, we are going to take some time off and have a little party of our own. We are driving up to Baguio which we have been told is quite beautiful as well as cold. While the definition of cold here is slightly different than in Tulsa, it is bound to be cooler and we won’t complain about that!

We hope you have a great day celebrating the freedom we enjoy in the United States of America.
